Ballybunion Golf Club

Ballybunion, County Kerry, South-West Ireland

Having played the Old Course in Ballybunion many times since my first visit in 1981, I am now of the opinion it is one of the best and most beautiful tests of links golf anywhere in the world
— Tom Watson - Millenium Captain, Ballybunion Golf Club

The legend that is Tom Watson, captain of USA in the Ryder Cup 2014, is another lover of Irish links golf and was captain of Ballybunion in 2000, the club’s centenary year. His love-affair with Ballybunion started a long time ago and continues to this day.

Ballybunion is widely acclaimed as Ireland's most famous course and consistently rated amongst the world's finest. Perched on a sandy cliff top, it makes its way through dunes and valleys with dramatic changes in elevation. Wild and intimidating, but stunningly beautiful on the Atlantic. The greens are often perched on mounds or carefully sheltered between sand dunes.

The word Magic is often used to describe the Ballybunion Experience:

It demands greater imagination and shot-making skills than anything I have ever known. It makes me feel the same way as when I first saw St Andrews (where he won the British Open in 1984). The magic is the same
